What is the typical number of students per class or your class size?

At the elementary school level, the maximum classroom size is currently 27 students. It is our goal for the 2007-2008 school year is to reduce class size to 25 students maximum. Five years ago, our maximum class size was 32 students per room; therefore, we're continuing to reduce class sizes. At the secondary level, the maximum classroom size is 32, but the average is 30 for middle school and 20 for high school.

Do your classroom teachers have teachers' aides?

Berean has three teachers' aides. A time each morning is committed to our kindergarten classes. The balance of their time is spent in various elementary grade levels as needs arise.

How much time should we expect to spend daily on homework?

Kindergarten   15 - 20 Minutes   4th - 5th Grade   45 Minutes to 1 Hour
1st - 2nd Grade   20 - 30 Minutes   6th - 8th Grade   1 to 1 1/2 Hours
3rd Grade   30 - 45 Minutes   9th - 12th Grade   1 /12 to 2 Hours

NOTE: Teachers often allow students time during the daily schedule to start on homework. (Minimum homework is suggested for Wednesday night.)

A few examples below illustrate our students' academic achievements:
  • One third of our 7th grade qualifies for the Duke University TIP program (Talent Identification Program)
  • In our recent classes, most of our seniors qualified for the Florida Bright Futures Program, Some with 100% scholarship.
  • The norm for our elementary students on the Stanford Achievement Test is well above the national average.
