February 11th Newsletter

February 11, 2016
By William Dupere

As I stated last week, BCS is hosting the Christian Schools of Palm Beach County Staff Development Day, tomorrow, February 12th.  The keynote speakers are Dr. Jeff Myers, President of Summit Ministries and author of Cultivate: Forming the Emerging Generation through Life-on-Life Mentoring, and Dr. Dan Egeler, President of the Association of Christian School International, the accreditation association of BCS.  And of course, Friday and Monday are both annual BCS school holidays for the purpose of staff development and the celebration of President's Day.   Please pray that this event will have a lasting impact on the overall mission of the 15 schools in attendance.

Re-Enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year:  As of this past Monday, the enrollment count for next year stands at 554 students.    You should also know that as we roll through February this projected enrollment is more indicative of counts that we normally see in late March.   At present, with the number of students either enrolled or presently in the application process, we are surpassing 85% of full capacity in all but one grade level.   If you have not yet re-enrolled your child as of this date, please remember there is a registration increase scheduled to take place on February 29th at 6:00 PM and you'll want to re-enroll your child before grade level capacities are met.

Congratulations to Mrs. Alyson Wells, BCS high school math teacher, for being selected as the BCS Teacher of the Month for February.   Mrs. Wells currently teaches six different high school mathematics classes, including AP Calculus.  In addition to her classroom duties, Mrs. Wells is involved in the planning and participation of the high school Washington DC mini-mester trip, the Prom Committee, and is a Life Group leader at the high school level.  Please take the time to thank her for her dedication to the mission and vision of BCS.   Also, I would like to thank you for your nominations and support of Mrs. Wells and the many other teachers in this month's nomination process.

As you heard last week, the BCS Theater Department, under the direction of Mrs. Jenny Hudson, took eleven middle school age students to the Florida Jr. State Thespian Competition at Lake Howell HS in Winter Park.  Well, we have great news, they returned from the competition with five superior awards and three excellent awards in individual and group performance.   Congratulations to Mrs. Hudson and all of the participants for a job well done.

BCS Business/Sponsor Night Out:  The BCS Five Guys Community Night is scheduled for today from 3:00 to 9:00 PM at the Wellington store at 10200 Forest Hill Blvd.  Please identify yourself as part of BCS at the time of your order and your transaction will initiate a contribution to BCS.

BCS is participating in a national fundraising day on February 23rd entitled ACSI's RaiseUP Giving Day 2016.  The program is sponsored by ACSI and RaiseUpSchool.org and is a day -long 24 hour opportunity for individuals to make personal donations to their favorite Christian school.  Once on the RaiseUpSchool.org site, link to the Region pull-down menu and select the Florida/Caribbean link to find the BCS option.  The site will become active for only 24 hours on February 23rd.    Remember to spread the good word about BCS to your extended family and friends about this special one day ACSI national fundraising event.
